Planning a holiday and not sure what type of car to rent? With so many websites out there, it could be quite confusing so use the following tips and you may just find that it easier than you may think.
Firstly, you must ensure you select the best location to collect from. For example, in some instances, local operators do not have access to airport terminals and would either provide a free shuttle to take you to their closest depot or will expect you to make your own way there. This can be very inconvenient, so to ensure you receive a hire car from the terminal you would be best to book through a National Company, such as Hertz, Europcar, Thrifty, Budget and Avis.
All good car rental websites will show prices for you to consider. This is fantastic, however ensure you have completed the whole quotation process before you consider the price, as once their administration fees or other charges are added, you may find that the price has increased dramatically. You will also need to know what costings may be involved if you need extras such as baby seats and booster seats.
Then there is insurance. It may seem confusing, but you should be able to view terms and conditions about what cover the car hire agent can provide. In all instances, it is best to select the Premium Cover so you are liable for very little if any. You may feel that you are a safe driver, however you really do not want to be left paying an insurance bill after a great holiday, and besides, there are other people on the road who may not be competent drivers. Either way, when you collect your rental car, do not sign anything until you are fully aware of what you are liable for and in what instances.
An area of use, may prohibit you from taking the car rental where you want to go. So you must ensure that you know the area that the car can be taken before you book. Generally, the National Companies will allow their hire cars to go further abroad but if you plan to just travel locally, you may find something through a local operator.
Be aware that cancellation fees may apply if you book online and then change your mind. Before you book anything over the internet, ensure you have read the terms and conditions thoroughly. If you have queries, a quick email to clarify may save you future headaches and money.
If you truly want a convenient way to book a rental car, find a website that compares prices from a number of agents. You will be given the cheapest prices between the agents, and you should be able to access any further information that you require.
