Is it possible to travel cheap by boat from england to north america, (hitch a ride on a cargo ship)?

South of North America preferably. yes you still can actually, cargo, container and buk carriers , but it's not a cheap option, flying is much cheaper and a whole lot quicker. do a search, something like travellers handbook , by cargo ship or internet guide to freighter travel. cheers
